Erik ten Hag told what his top priority is at Manchester United

Erik ten Hag has been told what his top priority is at Manchester United ahead of a busy summer.

United announced Ten Hag as their new manager in April and he officially started work at Old Trafford the day after his new club lost 1-0 to Crystal Palace on the final day of the Premier League season. This defeat ensured that the 2021/22 campaign would go down as the worst Reds Premier League points total ever.

At the weekend Ralf Rangnick, who was due to move into a consultancy role this summer, left the club by mutual consent to focus on his work with the Austrian national team. Andy O'Boyle meanwhile was appointed as the deputy football director at Old Trafford on Tuesday.

Mark Lawrenson, speaking on behalf of 888sport, believes that at Carrington there is a particular area that Ten Hag needs to address. He explained: "The first thing that Ten Hag will do is make United super-fit.

"They are not super fit right now and when you watch them play, they fade away. So that will be a priority.

"Liverpool and City – who are the yardsticks – work their socks off and if a player doesn’t, he doesn’t get into the team. Giving a minimum of 100 per cent will change how they play but he also has to wheel and deal if he wants them to challenge for the top four next season.

"The title is beyond them as Liverpool and City are just streets ahead." United ended the season a whopping 35 points behind their rivals from across Manchester.
