Erik ten Hag tipped to make £25m Chelsea move to complete first Manchester United transfer

Erik ten Hag reportedly looks set to raid Chelsea ahead of the upcoming transfer window. The newly-appointed Manchester United boss, who has already been linked with a move for N'Golo Kante, has been told to sign Hakim Ziyech this summer.

The former Morocco international has featured 24 times in the Premier League for Thomas Tuchel's side this season, directly contributing towards seven goals. Ziyech has shown great promise for the Blues, though his campaign has been plagued with minor injuries which have stagnated his ability to rival the west London side's wealth of attacking options.

He swapped the Johan Cruyff Arena for Stamford Bridge in 2019, leaving Ten Hag's famous Ajax side which enjoyed an awe-inspiring 2018/19 Champions League run. And, with pair set to cross paths on British soil next season, Ziyech has been suggested to the Red Devils as the first signing of the summer.

Speaking on Ziggo Sport’s show ‘Rondo’ on Monday evening which featured Ten Hag as a guest, Van Basten suggested that United sign Ziyech in the upcoming transfer window. The former Netherlands international told the Red Devils boss that the winger could thrive under his stewardship.

"What comes to my mind now is that I think Ziyech, who already plays in England, could be a very good footballer at Manchester United for Erik," Van Basten said.

However, Ten Hag refused to answer and instead acknowledged the transfer speculation that comes hand-in-hand with the United job, as it has done at Ajax. He replied: "Of course this was already the case at Ajax.

"You take that in and then you have to continue to work well with the dressing room and with people within the club. You have to analyse well and make the right choices."

Ziyech, who is currently valued at £25.3m according to CIES Football Observatory, has featured more under Ten Hag than any other boss, winning the Eredivisie, the KNVB Cup and the Johan Cruyff Shield. The duo enjoyed a fruitful relationship in Amsterdam, though United already have a wealth of attacking options, with Jadon Sancho, Marcus Rashford, Anthony Elanga and Amad Diallo among options on the wing.
