Erik ten Hag responds to Manchester United interest after Ole Gunnar Solskjaer sacking

Ajax manager Erik ten Hag refused to be drawn on speculation linking him with the vacant Manchester United job.

Ole Gunnar Solskjaer was on Sunday relieved of his duties after another humiliating defeat, a fourth in five league games, this time 4-1 away to Watford as captain Harry Maguire sent off.

Michael Carrick will take temporary charge of the Reds for the forthcoming matches in a caretaker role, with the club now looking for an interim manager to take the reins for the remainder of the season.

Regarding a permanent successor for Solskajer, Erik ten Hag is amongst the names linked with the role.

Zinedine Zidane and Leicester City manager Brendan Rodgers have both been tipped with the role in recent weeks as the pressure has increased on the Norwegian.

Under Solskjaer, United tasted victory just once in the last two months and saw them lose ground in the race for the Champions League places.

Ten Hag, meanwhile, continues to guide Ajax from strength to strength after cruising through their Champions League group, notably brushing aside Borussia Dortmund.

His side on Sunday emphasised their title credentials once more with a resounding 5-0 win away to RKC Waalwijk.

"I am focused on my team, we have a brilliant squad and we want to achieve a lot,"

.

"We have a brilliant squad, we want to fight for titles. My focus is on Ajax, the rest only distracts. I expect from my players that they are focused on Ajax, so I have to give the right example for that too.

"You keep asking me [about my position as Ajax manager], yes it is a weird question. I heard nothing about [United's interest], so I can't think about it."
