Erik ten Hag on collision course with Man Utd chiefs after failing in last ditch transfer move

Erik ten Hag's transfer suggestions are being knocked back by the Manchester United board as the club's underwhelming transfer window continues.

The Dutchman, who arrived from Ajax in the summer, has only welcomed three new faces in recent months and has missed out on the majority of his top targets. Frenkie de Jong is the most high profile of those with United unable to lure the midfielder from Barcelona.

Antony was another man on Ten Hag's radar, having worked with the winger during his time in Amsterdam. The Brazilian was a star performer last term but Ajax are reluctant to see the player go and their £80m valuation has priced United out of a move and left them to seek alternatives.

Ten Hag has turned to another former player in Hakim Ziyech, who is largely out of favour at Chelsea. The Red Devils boss has seen first hand what the Moroccan can do previously at Ajax. United chiefs have largely backed Ten Hag's transfer picks, but are not prepared to push forward with Ziyech as they make an exception, reports the MEN.

The Chelsea winger was signed several years ago but hasn't been able to establish himself at Stamford Bridge and was an unused substitute on the opening weekend. Thomas Tuchel is reportedly happy to let Ziyech leave, but United will not be pursuing a move.

The Manchester outfit remain on the lookout for more firepower as they face the threat of losing Cristiano Ronaldo. Their interest in Marko Arnautovic lasted a matter of days whilst their desperation to sign a new forward saw them make a late move for Timo Werner.

RB Leipzig have bought the German back to the Bundesliga after two underwhelming years in the Premier League. He has set Leipzig back £25m with United lodging an unsuccessful attempt to sign him at the eleventh hour. United's transfer approach has copped huge criticism in recent years and, despite a change in leadership personnel, that trend has continued.

A move for Juventus ' Adrien Rabiot is edging closer after the two clubs agreed a fee that could rise to £20m as the Red Devils look to bolster their options in the middle of the pitch. Christian Eriksen is the only forward thinking player to move to Old Trafford this summer.

Lisandro Martinez is United's most expensive arrival thus far whilst Tyrell Malacia has also made the move to Manchester. The team's flaws were again exposed however as they suffered a surprise defeat on the opening weekend at the hands of Brighton and Hove Albion.
