Erik ten Hag has had a better first day at Manchester United than he did at Ajax

New Manchester United boss Erik ten Hag was able to see some of his players in training for the first time on Monday.

It marks the start of a road that fans hope will be long and leads them to glory. First impressions count, especially given the situation the club finds itself in.

But Ten Hag doesn’t have to do much to get off to a better start than he did at Ajax. The 52-year-old joined the Dutch giants from great rivals FC Utrecht in 2017 with the Amsterdam outfit in disarray following a turbulent period.

Fans were already disgruntled and Ten Hag rather naively added fuel to the fire immediately. According to Eurosport, he arrived at Ajax on his first day with an FC Utrecht suitcase. It was a move that is said to have caused Ajax fans to “hate” Ten Hag before he had time to get his feet under the desk. It took a while for them to accept him as their boss but their anger turned to pride when he started getting results.

United supporters are eagerly awaiting his first outing as their team’s new manager and are excited about his arrival. Ten Hag has been promised time by the Old Trafford faithful, who acknowledge his resurrection of United will likely be a long-term task.

And unlike at Ajax, he made a good first impression in his debut press conference which has encouraged fans further. He was snapped arriving for United training session at Carrington on Monday morning and there was no sign of a rival memorabilia on his person, which surely means he’s already got off to a greater start than he did with his former employers.
