Erik ten Hag explains why Christian Eriksen starts for Manchester United vs West Ham

Erik ten Hag has switched up his Manchester United side to play West Ham by bringing Tyrell Malacia, Christian Eriksen and Wout Weghorst into the team.

Weghorst last started a game for United in the team's defeat against Newcastle at St. James' Park on April 2. He's been limited to appearances from the bench since that match, but he's returned to the starting side this weekend.

Although United are not planning to sign him on a permanent deal, Ten Hag has decided to start Weghorst against West Ham on Sunday night, which means he'll lead the attack with Marcus Rashford on the left and Antony on the right.

After defeat against Brighton, Malacia and Eriksen have also replaced Diogo Dalot and Anthony Martial respectively in the team.

United must respond at the London Stadium and Ten Hag, speaking to BT Sport ahead of kick-off, explained his line-up: "The last 15, 20 minutes [against Brighton] was really bad, really bad performance.

"They are not our standards, so we have to get back to our high standards. We have to go back to our high standards and you have to do it always, every game. You know with Christian [Eriksen], we get football, we get rotation, we get key passes and final passes.

"He's [Garnacho] back for the last games of the season and he had a huge impact also from the bench, so yeah, he's back. It's always a tough game against West Ham, they have strong players individually.

"I expect a tough game, every Premier League game is tough so it's going to be exciting, I'm sure."
