Erik ten Hag 'could attend' Crystal Palace vs Manchester United fixture

Incoming manager Erik ten Hag could be in the stands for Manchester United's trip to Selhurst Park to face Crystal Palace on the final day of the Premier League season next Sunday, according to reports.

The report by The Athletic claims that the Dutchman, who was officially installed as United's new boss last month, intends to watch the trip to the capital live. However, it is not yet certain if he will definitely attend the game in person.

The 52-year-old, who guided Ajax to their third Eredivisie title of his premiership on Wednesday night, overseeing a 5-0 win over SC Heerenveen, will take charge at Old Trafford ahead of the start of next season. The trip to Palace will mark United's final game in what has turned out to be a wretched campaign.

Ten Hag, who was identified as United's top managerial target several weeks before he was officially installed as Ole Gunnar Solskjaer's permanent successor, has already started to put some foundations in place ahead of officially picking up the baton from Ralf Rangnick. The Manchester Evening News understands that he, along with Mitchell van der Gaag and Steve McClaren, who are both set to join him at Old Trafford, met United bosses for a recruitment meeting in Amsterdam this week.

The Dutchman is going to be tasked with overseeing one of the biggest summers United have faced in recent years over the next few months, meaning planning ahead will be crucial to ensuring success follows. Ten Hag will take charge of Ajax for the final time on Sunday afternoon when they face Vitesse Arnhem away from home in their final league game of the season.

It promises to mark an emotional occasion for Ten Hag, who took charge at the Johann Cruyff Arena back in December 2017. It does, however, mean that he could be prepared to fly to England for United's season finale at Palace in just over a week's time, although nothing on that has yet been confirmed.

However, The Athletic insist that he is keen to watch the game live. United will be aiming to wrap up a Europa League spot on the final day of the campaign, but could be under intense pressure to bag sixth, depending on West Ham United's result against Manchester City on Sunday.
