Erik ten Hag already has plan for keeping 'authority' at Manchester United

Erik ten Hag has already outlined his plan for keeping 'authority' in the Old Trafford dressing room should he be appointed Manchester United manager.

The Manchester Evening News revealed on Wednesday that Ten Hag's current club Ajax are expecting their manager to leave for Old Trafford. Last month MEN Sport reported that the 52-year-old had been interviewed for the role and that he was considered to be the first choice for the position.

United currently insist that they have not secured a 'done deal' with any manager at this stage. But, should Ten Hag walk through the doors at the Theatre of Dreams, he has already spoken about how he plans to ensure he keeps authority in the dressing room.

Speaking on the Ajax YouTube channel back in 2020, Ten Hag explained: "I think I am who I am. I'm not a copy of somebody else. As a coach you can follow someone's example and learn from coaches who inspire you. But the main thing is that you work in a way that fits your personality.

"Otherwise you're playing a role, and players see right through that and you'll lose authority."

Ten Hag went on to explain what it is like for a new manager in those opening days at a club. "The beginning is always difficult," he said. "You don't know the club yet.

"I got there under certain circumstances, and then you go to work. Before you introduce your ideas to the squad and they accept them, that takes time.

"A coach can't perform magic, although some media and people seem to think they can. Put your team out there and it'll be fine."
