Erik Sviatchenko set for shock Celtic return as Hoops 'consider move' for defender

Erik Sviatchenko is set for a shock return to Celtic, three years after leaving the club.

The defender left the Hoops in 2018 to return to first club Midtjylland on an initial loan deal before joining permanently in the following summer.

And now he could become one of Ange Postecoglou’s first signings with a buyout clause in his contract.

The Daily Record report that Sviatchenko feels he has ‘unfinished’ business in Glasgow and the club are willing to bring back someone who knows the culture of the team.

The 29-year-old left Celtic Park in a £1m move in 2018, two years after he had joined the club in a £1.5m deal.

He won two league titles, two league cups and the Scottish Cup during his time but never truly made himself a first team regular.

He has impressed since returning to his homeland but was part of the Midtjylland team that was heavily defeated by Rangers over two legs in the Europa League in 2019.

It’s also believed that he is attracting interest from English Premier League clubs but would favour a move back to Glasgow, having loved his first spell in the country.
