Erik McCoy NFL draft profile

Erik McCoy | C | Texas A&M

Height | 6-4

Weight | 303

Class | RS Junior

College Bio

McCoy, a three-year starter for Texas A&M, redshirted in 2015 before earning the starting center job in 2016. McCoy started all 13 games for the Aggies in 2017, 11 at center and two at guard. In 2018, he was named the team captain, starting the full 13-game slate.

McCoy went up against elite competition with the likes of defensive tackles Quinnen Williams and Dexter Lawrence and proved to hold his own in the trenches.

McCoy is a strong-bodied, heavy-handed, short-area mauler who helped lead the way for running back Trayveon Williams. McCoy uses body control off the snap to cut off penetration and seal moving defenders from hole. He’s an accurate snapper and gets out of stance quickly to engage interior defensive linemen with a good base and pop in his hands. McCoy has the lateral agility to sustain his block while on the move.

Overall, McCoy has limitations and it shows when he gets beat by power or quickness or when he’s in space, but he compensates with strength, smarts and competitiveness to keep defenders at bay. He has the makeup and well-rounded skillset to play in any scheme and should be a starting NFL center for years to come.
