Erik Lamela introduces his newborn son to Tottenham as Spurs beat Birmingham

Erik Lamela welcomed his new-born son to the world by swiftly introducing him to his club Tottenham, who beat Birmingham 1-0 in their second pre-season fixture in as many days.

The Argentinian featured in Tottenham's 4-1 win over Reading just 24 hours prior, scoring a stunning free-kick after coming on as a second-half substitute.

The 28-year-old was absent for Tottenham's third match of pre-season to attend the birth of his second child, however.

Lamela may not have been at the near-empty Tottenham Hotspur Stadium, but he watched on with his new-born son Thiago as the north London club earned a third successive victory.

The forward's creative spark was certainly missed, with Jose Mourinho's side relying on a last-gasp Steven Bergwijn stunner to seal the win after they were limited to few chances throughout.

Tottenham will now reconvene after a brief international break, where they'll take on Watford at Vicarage Road next Saturday, just over a week before they kick-off their Premier League campaign at home to Everton.

Lamela is now the last man standing from the seven players that were brought in to replace Gareth Bale now seven years ago in 2013.

His commitment has certainly never been questioned, shown once more by his desire to watch Spurs in pre-season action shortly after the birth of his second son.

The forward fell behind Lucas Moura in the pecking order under Mourinho last season and he faces fierce competition for a place in the side with Heung-min Son and Bergwijn now fully fit.

His exquisite effort against Reading was yet another reminder of his quality, however, and he'll look to build on that with Tottenham facing a hectic start to the season domestically and in Europe.
