Tottenham Hotspur winger Erik Lamela has explained why he wore odd boots during Spurs' Carabao Cup fourth-round victory over Chelsea at the Tottenham Hotspur Stadium on Tuesday evening.
Spurs advanced to the quarter-finals of the Carabao Cup with a 5-4 penalty shoot-out success over their London rivals after Lamela's 83rd-minute equaliser cancelled out Timo Werner's first half opener.
After watching Spurs dispatch all five of their spot kicks, the pressure weighted on Blues midfielder Mason Mount's shoulders, but his strike clipped the post and went wide, meaning Jose Mourinho's much-changed side progressed to the last-eight.
Whilst Lamela's strike could prove to be a crucial one in Spurs' season, depending on how the rest of their Carabao Cup adventure pans out, it will also be remembered by some that he found the back of the net wearing odd boots.
The Argentine winger wore a blue and white boot on his left foot whilst wearing a red boot on his right.
Though football boots come in a variety of different colours these days, it is rare to see players wearing odd boots.
Now, Lamela has opened up on why he made the decision to do that against Chelsea, insisting that he has a problem with his right foot and that new boots will soon be on the way.
"I have a problem in my right foot and they are making a new boot for me, Adidas," Lamela told Sky Sports.
"The new boots should arrive tomorrow, so at the moment I am having to play like this."
