Erica Wheeler welcomed Caitlin Clark to the Fever by acting like the consummate veteran

Caitlin Clark’s new teammate, Erica Wheeler, has made it her mission to welcome Caitlin with open arms to the WNBA. And the reason why Wheeler has gone above and beyond for the No. 1 pick is so incredibly heartwarming.

Erica Wheeler has been hyped about Caitlin Clark joining the Indiana Fever long before Caitlin arrived. She’s been tweeting about Clark for months and even came wholesomely unglued when Caitlin was drafted.

None of that awesome energy from Erica changed when training camp started just days ago. In fact, Wheeler explained that she felt it was her duty as Caitlin’s vet to step up to support her, even if that meant Wheeler would lose her spot as starting point guard.

Here’s what Erica told the media on Monday:

“I just wanted to get ahead of it because I know this transition is tough. It’s very unlikely that a vet [will] just take you in when you have the same position. I think oftentimes people forget I’m a great person before a basketball player.”

“As a big sister, I’m going to take the first step first to just let her know, ‘We’re here. We got you — whatever you need from me as your vet.'”

Wheeler even went on to share that being around Clark makes her want to elevate her game. She explained that Caitlin’s energy pushes everyone.
