Erica Fernandes: I miss making the crib and getting gifts during Christmas

For Kasautii Zindagii Kay 2 actress Erica Fernandes, Christmas means celebration at home. No matter where she is, she makes sure not to miss what she calls the biggest festival of the year. Speaking to us ahead Christmas, Erica reveals everything that she loves about it.

As the conversation progresses, Erica gets nostalgic about her younger days, when she had more time to prepare for

everything beforehand. “I used to make the crib at home when I was young. We used to have more time back then, even a bigger space. I used to make grass, mountains, and clouds that looked real to give it a more authentic feel. Even the background would be grand. Now, we buy the readymade ones,” she laughs.

Studying in a convent school also added to her yuletide experience. She was a part of the school choir and played the keyword. “My favourite carol is ‘Christmas Polka’, which was always a part of the playlist during the school celebration, as it was a peppy song with a catchy tune. Decoration of the tree was also something I looked forward to,” she reminisces.

Christmas is also synonymous with cake, which Erica likes to bake. “While growing up, my mother used to make the cakes, and I only helped her out. But now, I bake, too. We usually make the classic plum cake. In fact, our family has a secret recipe that makes the cakes richer,” she shares.

One of the high points, she reveals, was returning home after the midnight mass and opening the gifts kept for her. She says, “I remember we used to go to church with the hope that once we got back home, we could open all our presents. I would get a lot of gifts, in fact, whatever I wished for, I got every year on Christmas. I miss getting gifts now because we have grown up. So, I have to fake them, bring empty boxes and keep them under the tree, just to get the feel!”
