Eric Trump mingles with fans at US Women's Open, hints President Trump may attend

BEDMINSTER, N.J. _ Eric Trump, the son of President Donald Trump, mingled with fans on Thursday during the first round of the U.S. Women's Open at Trump National Golf Club.

But the big question is if President Trump himself will be on the grounds this weekend.

In a brief interview with The Record and one other outlet, the president's son didn't rule out the possibility of a visit this weekend.

"TBD, TBD," Eric Trump said, smiling.

There are strong hints that the president will be in attendance. The FAA issued a temporary flight restriction over Bedminster earlier this week. And on Thursday, workers were planting trees and flowers near a glassed-in observation stand which Trump is expected to use this weekend.

Trump was in Paris on Thursday for a Bastille Day celebration.

If President Trump does attend the Women's Open this weekend, it's unlikely he will have the same freedom to mingle with the fans that his son did.

Security watched closely as Eric Trump greeted fans in a merchandise tent for about 10 minutes. He posed for photos and talked about how the tournament is going so far.

When a reporter approached Trump as he left the merchandise tent and asked if he had time for a few questions, Trump said "no."

But when asked for his thoughts on the tournament, Trump replied.

"The week's going great," Trump said. "The course is beautiful. People are happy."

Trump then sought to clarify who he was speaking with.

"Are you golf media?" Trump said. "I love golf media."

Trump's aides quickly ended the interview as he walked toward the clubhouse.

Eric Trump said he arrived at Trump National on Thursday morning and will be attending all four rounds of the tournament. There was no sign of Donald Trump Jr., who attended media day here back in May.

As for their father, we'll have to wait and see.
