Eric Stokes Jr. on Deandre Baker’s path after G-Day performance

Georgia Bulldogs corner Eric Stokes Jr. dominated G-Day and is looking to follow in Deandre Baker’s path. Stokes Jr. announced his arrival as the 2019 #1 CB with a pick six in the G-Day game:

On the pick six, Stokes Jr. takes advantage of Jeremiah Holloman slipping and fights for the football with UGA’s #1 receiver. Kudos to Stokes Jr. for fighting for the football and ultimately taking it to the house. This interception is not Jake Fromm’s fault since Holloman slipped, which disrupted the timing of their route.

Stoke Jr.’s pick six looked very similar to Deandre Baker’s pick six of Jake Fromm in last year’s spring game:

Both pick sixes weren’t entirely on Fromm. I wouldn’t expect Stokes Jr. to win the Jim Thorpe Award like Deandre Baker did. Still, Stokes Jr. is going to be Georgia’s shutdown corner for the 2019 season. Stokes Jr. spent much of G-Day following Jeremiah Holloman. Expect him to be matched up with the number one receiver for opposing teams throughout the 2019 season.

Stokes Jr. won Georgia’s co-Defensive Most Improved Player award in 2018. The redshirt sophomore took the starting job from five star recruit Tyson Campbell last season. If Stokes Jr. can continue improving at this rate, then expect him to continue to close in on Deandre Baker’s elite level of play.
