Eric Reid: LSU’s wild locker room is an argument to pay the players

Eric Reid is a former LSU standout who is now a safety for the Carolina Panthers, and on Monday morning he offered his thoughts on LSU’s new locker room, which will have sleeping pods and individualized TVs and all the other madness we’ve come to expect from these new power football programs.

Reid pointed out that when he attended LSU, seven years ago, the locker rooms were already nicer than the ones that are at the Carolina Panthers facility now. They’re now being updated again.

You could make the argument that Carolina doesn’t have to recruit players like LSU does, so LSU almost has to spend lavishly on their amenities to stand out among their competition, especially in the SEC.

That is true based on the current circumstances. These circumstances are dumb, however.

Nice locker rooms are nice. But imagine if your employer asked you to work for below minimum wage … but you’ll have a sick desk, your own TV and nap pod in a private office, and ping pong in the break room.  Ping pong is great. I bet you love love ping pong. I also bet you would prefer to be paid for your work.

And I’m pretty sure the Panthers are more than fine with their adequate locker rooms, considering they’re, you know, paid.

Some person on Twitter asked Reid why he was slandering his college with the tweet. He pointed out he’s not. Not at all. He’s pointing out the hypocrisy of the system.

Pay the players. This is so dumb.
