Eric Gordon will not play for the Houston Rockets in Wednesday night’s home game versus Memphis due to a bruised right knee.
The 6-foot-3 reserve guard was previously listed on the team’s injury report as questionable, though head coach Mike D’Antoni said at Tuesday’s practice that he expected Gordon to play.
But in the team’s updated injury report on Wednesday afternoon, the 31-year-old was instead downgraded to out. It’s the same right knee that Gordon had surgery on earlier this season, and he left the game early during Monday’s victory over New York due to soreness in that knee.
For the 2019-20 season, Gordon is averaging 15.2 points in 29.2 minutes per game for the Rockets (37-20). Including Wednesday’s absence, he will have missed 28 of the team’s 58 games due to various injuries.
D’Antoni will further update Gordon’s status during his pregame media session with reporters on Wednesday afternoon at Toyota Center. With Gordon out, that could mean more minutes against the Grizzlies for reserves Austin Rivers, Ben McLemore, and DeMarre Carroll.
After Wednesday, the Rockets don’t play again until Saturday night in Boston. Thus, by sitting Gordon out Wednesday, that could buy him several consecutive days of rest due to the relative break in the schedule.
