Eric Gordon officially signs contract extension with Rockets

The Houston Rockets have officially signed guard Eric Gordon to his recently reported contract extension, according to GM Daryl Morey.

Morey posted photos to his Instagram account on Wednesday morning that showed Gordon putting pen to paper, along with the caption “Splash Gordon Approaching.”

An agreement with Gordon, now 30 years old, was first reported Friday night by Jonathan Feigen of the Houston Chronicle.

Gordon’s extension, which begins with the 2020-21 NBA season, includes three years and $54.5 million of guaranteed money. The final season of Gordon’s contract, at $20.9 million, is not guaranteed unless the Rockets win an NBA championship or Gordon is an All-Star.

The annual values reflect the maximum that Houston was allowed to offer Gordon in a contract extension under the NBA’s salary cap, based on his prior deal. Gordon signed his initial deal with the Rockets (four years, $52 million) in July 2016.

Gordon has averaged 16.8 points in 31.3 minutes per game across three seasons in Houston, including a 36.4% clip from three-point range. Last postseason, he shot 40% on three-pointers while also providing excellent perimeter defense in 11 playoff games against Utah’s Donovan Mitchell and Golden State’s Klay Thompson.
