Eric Gordon, Danuel House Jr. nearing return to Rockets; Kevin Porter Jr. less certain

Veteran guard Eric Gordon (right groin tightness) and forward Danuel House Jr. (right foot sprain) appear likely to return to the Houston Rockets in time for Wednesday’s home game versus Detroit. But the status of third-year guard Kevin Porter Jr., who left Sunday’s game early at Golden State due to a left thigh contusion, looks to be in more doubt.

Head coach Stephen Silas said at Tuesday’s practice that both Gordon and House participated, and each would likely be available for Wednesday’s game at Toyota Center. Porter, however, was limited, with Silas adding that he was “hopeful” of his availability but less certain.

Gordon sat out only one game with groin tightness, while House missed each of the last six after suffering the foot sprain on Oct. 26 in Dallas. Gordon is averaging 13.8 points (52.9% on 3-pointers) and 2.0 rebounds in 26.9 minutes per game, and he’s currently Houston’s second-leading scorer. Meanwhile, House had averaged 3.3 points (40.0% on 3-pointers) and 3.0 rebounds in limited playing time of 11.3 minutes.

Porter is averaging 12.3 points and 5.2 assists in 31.3 minutes, with the assist total leading the team. If he’s unavailable, Gordon could start in Porter’s place in the backcourt alongside rookie Jalen Green.

Tipoff between the Rockets (1-9) and Pistons (1-8) is set for 6:30 p.m. Central, with the game broadcast to a national audience on ESPN.
