Eric Garcia sends message after injury suffered during Man City vs Arsenal

Eric Garcia has thanked Manchester City fans for their messages as he says he hopes to return to action soon.

Garcia was injured in City's 3-0 Premier League win over Arsenal on Wednesday as he collided with goalkeeper Ederson, who had raced out of his area to clear a forward ball.

The young defender, who had been handed a start in defence, required ten minutes of treatment on the field, before he was strapped up and stretchered off the pitch. He spent the night in hospital before being released yesterday.

In a statement on Thursday, City said Garcia was taken to Manchester Royal Infirmary Hospital after the game as a precaution for further tests. He has since been released, and City say they will monitor him in the coming days, ahead of a return to training and competitive action."

Earlier in the day, Ederson had posted a picture of him sitting next to Garcia shaking hands, and Aymeric Laporte had reassured fans that the Spaniard was fine.

Now, Garcia himself has taken to social media to thank fans for their messages of support, saying he will now rest before looking to return to action as soon as possible.

He posted: "Great to start again with a win against Arsenal. Thanks for all the messages I’ve received. Now it’s time to rest and recover and hopefully I’ll be back soon."

Garcia is likely to miss City's clash with Burnley on Monday, but manager Pep Guardiola had already suggested he would look for a different defensive partnership against the Clarets.

Guardiola said: "He doesn't make mistakes, he's always focused and this game we knew we would play against dynamic, fast players. Against Burnley it is a different type of game with their strikers and we need another type of player but for this game we thought he was the right guy to play alongside Laporte and he played really good."
