Eric Dier wishes Tottenham 'great success' in emotional farewell after Bayern Munich move confirmed

Eric Dier has wished Tottenham "great success" after his nine-and-a-half year spell at the club came to an end.

The defender, who was due to be out of contract at Spurs in the summer, has signed a contract with Bayern Munich until the end of the season, with the German club having the option to extend that by a further year.

It brings an end to Dier's time in north London, spanning almost a decade after his arrival from Sporting Lisbon in 2024 for a £4million fee.

The 29-year-old went on to make 364 appearances for Tottenham, and was involved in squads that reached League Cup finals in 2015 and 2021, and the Champions League final in 2019.

Dier, who made only one start under Ange Postecoglou this season, is reunited with former Spurs team-mate Harry Kane in Munich, after the striker joined Bayern for £100m in the summer.

In a message to the Spurs fans after his departure was confirmed, Dier hailed the support he has received and spoke of his close bond with the club.

"It's been a hell of a journey," Dier told the club's official website.

"The way I was received from the moment I came has been incredible. One thing that always stood out to me was everywhere you go in the world there seems to be so many Tottenham fans and it always seems to be amazing. I just want to say a big thank you to all of you for the support that you have shown me.

"I hope you can experience great success with the club moving forward, I'll be watching and supporting and hoping for the same. I hope to see you all soon.

"I'm extremely grateful to have had these nine-and-a-half years. Tottenham has been a part of my life and my family's life for so long, and will forever hold a special place in my heart."
