Eric Dier responds to Gareth Bale transfer question and reveals how Tottenham players reacted

Tottenham midfielder Eric Dier says the prospect of signing Gareth Bale is "exciting" for supporters, but admits Spurs' players have not discussed the move.

It is understood that Tottenham are looking to tie up a loan move for Bale, although Real Madrid are believed to prefer a permanent move for the 31-year-old attacker.

All parties are hopeful that a deal can be tied up for the move, with Tottenham looking for a loan deal while picking up a chunk of his huge wages, reported to be around £600,000-a-week before tax.

Bale's agent Jonathan Barnett told BBC Wales on Tuesday: "Gareth still loves Spurs. We are talking [Spurs, Real and Bale's camp]. It's where he wants to be."

He then told AFP on Wednesday morning: "It's close but not done. It's a complicated deal."

Speaking ahead of Spurs' Europa League qualifier against Lokomotiv Plovdiv on Thursday, Dier was asked about the Bale news from the dressing room's perspective.

"No, nothing on the WhatsApp group," Dier told reporters, when asked how Tottenham's players reacted to the reports. "Obviously there's a lot of speculation and it's not for me to speculate on.

"I'm sure from the fans' point of view it's very exciting to be linked with a player of that level.

"It doesn't affect me personally. It's not the first time there's been a player linked with going here or there."

The England international added: "[With all the new faces] it's a very different dressing room to the one we had last season.

"I think we've got a fantastic squad now, but with Sunday, Tuesday, Thursday, Sunday games, I think that schedule isn't showing any care for players' physical welfare."
