The FA have come down hard on Eric Dier with a four-game ban after the Tottenham Hotspur defender entered the crowd after a game back in March.
The 26-year-old has been handed the ban and a £40,000 fine which will leave Jose Mourinho livid with the decision.
Dier jumped into the stands at the Tottenham Hotspur Stadium on March 4 after the end of the FA Cup defeat to Norwich.
It was claimed at the time that Dier had spotted his brother in trouble up in the west stand so climbed up the steps in order to get him out of the situation.
However, the FA have not treated his case with such sympathy and he will now miss the matches against Bournemouth, Arsenal, Newcastle United and Leicester City, before returning for the final game against Crystal Palace.
Dier’s case was “non-standard” by the FA - at the more serious end of the spectrum – and an independent regulatory commission was called on to decide the Spurs player’s punishment.
An FA spokesman said: "Eric Dier has been suspended for four matches with immediate effect, fined £40,000 and warned as to his future conduct following a breach of FA Rule E3.
"The Tottenham Hotspur FC player admitted that his actions at the conclusion of a fixture against Norwich City FC in The FA Cup on 04 March 2020 were improper but denied that they were also threatening.
"An independent Regulatory Commission subsequently found Eric Dier’s actions to be threatening."
Mourinho will be livid with the decision having spoken out about the charge in the first place repeatedly.
"I think they made a decision when Guendouzi grabbed the other guy by his neck," Mourinho said this month while he awaited the decision. "“The decision was made in that moment."
Last month Mourinho was even more upset at the prospect of any ban.
I forgot that one [about Dier]. I forgot that one because it was such a strong movement at the time from the football community and others supporting Eric Dier," he said.
"With every professional, being a coach, player, former player, every pundit was so supportive of him that the critics were not in existence. The support was huge. People with great responsibilities in the game said they would do exactly as he did. It was proven there was no physical contact.
"The person didn't feel at any moment that anything was going to happen. He's trying to look and help his brother.
"If this story is still alive, it surprises me very, very much because we now, even with Marcus Rashford, have the proof that what is right is right.
"Sometimes this is really, really powerful in support of the right causes. I thought that this was with that case and it's not that case I would be very disappointed with that. "
However, Dier has been banned and the Spurs boss will have to do without him.
