Eric Dier doubtful for England vs Denmark as Jose Mourinho dealt another injury headache

Eric Dier is an injury doubt for England’s Nations League clash with Denmark.

That will be another concern for Tottenham boss Jose Mourinho with Harry Kane set to start at Wembley despite nursing a thigh problem and muscle fatigue which caused him to miss training last week.

Wolves captain Conor Coady is on standby to slot into England’s back three with Tottenham defender Dier nursing a sore hamstring after playing against Belgium on Sunday.

Coady was hugely impressive in England’s win over Wales last week and is now pushing to be part of the first choice line-up.

Reece James could come in at right wing back with Gareth Southgate likely to choose Ainsley Maitland-Niles ahead of Bukayo Saka at left wing back after Kieran Trippier pulled out of the squad and Ben Chilwell left the camp.

Kane is a concern for Tottenham who have come through huge fixture pile-up but Southgate insists he is fit to start and insists there is no club versus country row.

England boss Southgate said: “I'm puzzled by the furore. We have spoken as we do with every player if ever they miss training.

"There are conversations on every player with every club pre-camp so we know exactly the condition.

“In the camp there are constant communications between all the medical teams. So when Harry missed a couple of days training last week everyone was across that, we knew the plan.

“We know there is no injury. It’s a bit baffling really but you guys will have a better idea about where those stories come from than I have.”

England (probable): Pickford; Walker, Coady, Maguire; James, Henderson, Rice, Maitland-Niles; Mount, Rashford, Kane.
