Eric Dier 'among a list of candidates to replace Nemanja Matic' at Manchester United and more transfer gossip

Tottenham Hotspur midfielder Eric Dier is 'among a list of candidates' to replace Nemanja Matic at Manchester United, according to reports.

Ole Gunnar Solskjaer is expected to make significant changes to his squad this summer following a dismal end to the previous campaign and has already begun his rebuild after it was announced that a deal has been agreed in principle with Swansea City for the signing of Daniel James.

Yet United's summer spending spree is unlikely to end there and the club are thought to be interested in adding some new midfielders to the squad following the departure of Ander Herrera and the uncertainty surrounding Paul Pogba's future.

United have been linked with several forward thinking midfielders, such as Sporting's Bruno Fernandes, Lyon's Tanguy Ndombele and James Maddison of Leicester City.

Yet the club are also said to be on the hunt for a defensive midfielder and The Times claim that 'a list of candidates' has been 'discussed to fill the holding midfield role' to replace Nemanja Matic.

The report names Tottenham's Eric Dier as one of the names on the list as well as West Ham's Declan Rice.

It's also claimed that United 'want' Newcastle United's Sean Longstaff and that they see him as 'one for the future.'

Philippe Coutinho wants to leave Barcelona after an underwhelming spell at the La Liga outfit, according to reports in Spain.

The midfielder left Liverpool in January 2018 in search of Champions League success, but has failed to establish himself at the Camp Nou.

Cadena Ser, via  FourFourTwo , claim the Brazil international’s representatives have informed Barcelona of his decision.

It would reportedly take £100 million for Barcelona to let him go, it is claimed. United were linked with a move for the 26-year-old in January and rumours have continued to link the Brazilian with a move to Old Trafford.
