After weeks of rumors, Eric Bieniemy made his jump from the Chiefs to the Commanders official on Saturday. The two-time Super Bowl-winning offensive coordinator adds the assistant head coach title to his résumé, and seeks to prove himself as a play caller away from Andy Reid and Patrick Mahomes, after years of being passed over for head coaching opportunities.
Bieniemy wasn’t afraid to flex a bit in signing the paperwork to join the Washington franchise. In a picture posted by the team’s official Twitter account, he’s seen wearing the ring from Kansas City’s Super Bowl LIV win over the 49ers at the end of the 2019–20 season. The gaudy championship ring is basically impossible to miss.
That is one way to announce your entrance to a new franchise desperate to have a fraction of the success that Bieniemy found under Reid in Kansas City.
Naturally, it’s getting plenty of attention on Twitter.
He has his work cut out for him in D.C. The Commanders averaged just 18.9 points per game a season ago, 24th in the NFL. Kansas City—the top scoring team in the league—was more than 10 points better per game at 29.2.
