Eric Bailly sends fans message as he returns to Manchester United training after illness

Eric Bailly has thanked Manchester United fans for their supportive messages after recently contracting Covid-19.

The defender posted a message as he returned to the club's Carrington training complex on Monday, having been isolating at home in England after testing positive for the coronavirus while on international duty with the Ivory Coast.

Bailly, 27, has only played 15 times for United this season with his last appearance coming in the 1-1 draw with AC Milan on 11 March.

The Ivorian will be looking to return for United before the end of the campaign and he says he can't wait to get back into action as soon as possible.

"Back to training," he posted on social media followed by a flexed arm emoji. "Excited to be back with the team very soon. Thanks for all the concern and support messages after being diagnosed with COVID."

Ole Gunnar Solskjaer insists he has no issue with Bailly amid wranglings over a possible new contract, with the defender's current deal set to expire in summer 2022.

His representatives are at loggerheads with the club over their proposals for a renewal while United are in the market for a new centre-back, amid interest in Real Madrid's Raphael Varane and Pau Torres of Villarreal.

"Eric has been isolating back home in Ivory Coast," Solskjaer said last week. "He is back here now. Hope he’ll be available for the weekend. Hopefully he will train tomorrow and see how he feels. Had a test today, need confirmation he’s still negative.

"Eric has played well when he’s played. I know there has been speculation. We are talking to him about his contract. I don’t see any issues with him."

Bailly could return to the United squad when they travel to face Leeds United at Elland Road on Sunday afternoon.
