Eric Bailly gives update on Man Utd future amid Arsenal transfer interest

Manchester United defender Eric Bailly wants to remain at Old Trafford this summer despite reported interest from Arsenal and Lyon.

The Ivory Coast centre-back has seen limited first-team opportunities this season, struggling with injuries and also failing to impress Ole Gunnar Solskjaer.

That has seen him linked with a fresh move ahead of next season, and Premier League rivals Arsenal are understood to be keeping an eye on his situation.

French outfit Lyon are also interested in signing the 25-year-old star who signed for United from Villarreal in 2016.

However the Manchester Evening News has reported that Bailly is intent on forcing his way back into Solskjaer’s starting XI.

Bailly wants to fight for his place at Old Trafford rather than seek pastures new, it is claimed, and he's in no rush to quit his current club.

The defender has not featured for the Red Devils since the Champions League clash at Paris Saint-Germain, where he was taken off before half-time.

Arsenal boss Unai Emery is an admirer of the Ivory Coast international and came up against him in La Liga while Sevilla boss, with Bailly playing for Villarreal.

United know they are unlikely to recoup the full fee they paid for Bailly, particularly as he only has one year remaining on his contract, meaning Arsenal could seal a deal for around £20million.

Bailly could be one of a host of players to depart the Theatre of Dreams imminently, with fellow defender Antonio Valencia and Matteo Darmian also expected to leave this summer.
