Eric Bailly own goal: Watch Man United defender put through his own net in derby defeat to Man City

Manchester United started badly once again in a huge derby clash at Old Trafford as Eric Bailly scored an own goal.

After seven minutes, Manchester City took the lead after Joao Cancelo’s cross was diverted into his own net by the Ivorian defender.

The move began with a delightful cross from Kyle Walker that Ilkay Gundogan somehow failed to convert, before the ball was recycled down the left with Cancelo.

The left-back’s fiercely whipped cross was also heading for Gundogan but Bailly had plenty of space to clear. However, he badly miscued his kick and the ball flashed past David De Gea and into the net.

Bailly was only playing after an injury to Raphael Varane ahead of the game, with the signing from Real Madrid proving to have a remarkable affect in calming down the United backline.

In his absence, this error and the one that created the second goal - with De Gea and Luke Shaw particularly to blame - effectively killed the game as City dominated throughout.

Saturday’s derby was only Bailly’s third appearance of the season and his first in the Premier League, but it ended after 45 minutes as Ole Gunnar Solskjaer replaced him and moved to a back four.
