Eric Bailly issues Ole Gunnar Solskjaer stern warning ahead of Europa League final decision

Eric Bailly has made it clear he wants to start the Europa League final and could leave Manchester United if opportunities remain difficult to come by.

The Ivorian only recently extended his contract with the Red Devils, keeping him tied to the club until at least 2024.

But he has revealed that deal was signed with the hope of extended minutes in the first-team, with the suggestion he could move on should that not happen.

Solskjaer is set for a big decision as United take on Villarreal in Gdansk with Harry Maguire’s ankle ligament injury likely to keep him out.

Maguire travelled with the squad to Poland and the United boss had hoped his skipper would be able to join in their session at the Stadion Miejski on Tuesday.

However, he was a frustrated spectator and remained in the dugout, with his chances of starting looking bleak.

That means one of Bailly or Axel Tuanzebe will be given the nod to play alongside Victor Lindelof at the heart of the defence.

Many would expect the more senior defender to start, but Axel Tuanzebe was handed a start alongside the Swede against Fulham earlier this month.

The two then both started the final game of the season at Wolves, with Solskjaer opting to rotate his squad.

Bailly was seen receiving some medical attention during training, but prior to that, in an interview with the Times he said: “Solskjaer hasn’t told us anything yet but I’m in good shape and I hope to start against Villarreal.”

On his contract discussions, the 27-year-old explained: “Before signing the contract I wanted to be clear about my future in the team.

“If I’m going to get minutes and if I’m going to be OK, because I’m aware that I’ve had a lot of injuries.

“But I’m back and I feel strong and fit. I think I can be at the level that a top club like Manchester United requires.”

And Bailly admits that Solskjaer went out of his way to ensure he would stay at the club, but should he remain out of the starting line-up, he could begin to look at other options.

“I spoke to him [Solskjaer] and he told me he wanted me to stay,” he continued. “The most important thing was not the renewal but the conversation we had: we sat down, we talked and he told me what he wanted from me and that he wanted me to continue.

“Competition is always good to improve. I just say that I want to stay in case I get the chance to play.

"I don’t want to be a starter one game and a substitute for another five.

“If that happens I will have to look for another solution. The new contract is fine but if I don’t play I will be open to listen to other proposals.”
