Erewash Borough Council suspends all parking charges amid coronavirus pandemic

Erewash Borough Council has made all of its car parks free of charge for all residents.

Car parking in the council's parking facilities was already free for NHS and social care workers but council bosses have now taken the decision to remove charges completely amid the growing coronavirus pandemic.

The council owns 16 car parks in Ilkeston and nine car parks in Long Eaton and said the move comes as a way to help key workers who are still travelling in to help keep the country operational.

Standard prices were from £1.50 to £4.00, while prices at Long Eaton train station went up to £7.00 for a 48-hour stay.

Councillor Carol Hart, leader of Erewash Borough Council, said: "Whilst there was already free parking for NHS workers, social care workers and NHS volunteers we have now decided to extend the free parking to all of our residents in all of our car parks.

"Parking will be free in all of the council’s car parks including the one at Long Eaton train station."
