Secretary-General of the Palestine Liberation Organization (PLO) Saeb Erekat said Sunday that the Palestinian leadership will not withdraw from the Arab League in wake of the announcement by the United Arab Emirates and Bahrain that they will normalize relations with Israel.
Speaking during a press conference in Ramallah, he said: “We are part of the Arab system and we will not pull out from it.”
“Our security is part of Arab security and the Arabs have reiterated their commitment to the 2002 Arab peace initiative,” he added.
Peace, he continued, must focus on the main cause of the conflict. It demands that Israel end its occupation and cease its settlement expansion and allow the Palestinians to establish their own state with East Jerusalem as its capital.
On internal Palestinian divisions, Erekat said efforts are underway to establish national unity and hold elections.
