Eredivisie side reject £1.5m Celtic transfer offer for winger as fee demand set

Go Ahead Eagles have rejected a £1.5million offer from Celtic for Danish winger Jakob Breum. 

The Parkhead club are in the market for wide men after selling Nicholas Kuhn to Como for £17m and losing the services of the injured Jota until early next year. 

An offer for 21-year-old right sided attacker Breum fell well below the Dutch club’s valuation of £5million. 

Fighting off interest in Breum and midfielder Oliver Antman club director Jan Willem van Dop spoke of an offer from a ‘foreign club’ for the former earlier this month. It's understood the club in question was Celtic. 

“The only thing that is going on and as far as we are concerned are the unsuccessful moves,” said Van Dop in an interview with RTTV Oost. “There has been a bid for Jakob Breum from a foreign club

“We are so far apart there. You have to stand your ground. He may have to realise that it could be very good to stay with us at least until the winter break, just like Oliver Edvardsen.” 

 Breum moved to the Netherlands from Odense two years ago.  Insisting that he had no intention of losing his coveted duo for a ‘pittance’ Van Dop added: “We think that Breum and Antman should be allowed to leave for more than six million (£5million). If that doesn’t happen with this club, then maybe another one will come. And if not, then we hope that with all the positive feelings they have, they will stay with us and go into Europe. Then we will see during the winter break.” 

Celtic also have a long-term interest in Antwerp’s Belgian winger Michel-Ange Balikwisha. 

Jibril Rekkab has gone on the record saying that the player is open to the idea of joining Celtic, but claimed that negotiations had yet to kick in.
