Ereck Flowers named biggest draft bust in Giants’ history

The New York Giants have had a mix of tremendous success and dire mystery throughout their history when it comes to the fruits of the NFL Draft. However, one swing and a miss stands out above all others.

Doug Farrar recently broke down the biggest draft busts for all 32 NFL teams, and when it came to Big Blue, the choice was as easy as pie.

We don’t even have to tell you. You already know.

New York Giants: OT Ereck Flowers

When the Giants selected Flowers with the ninth overall pick in the 2015 draft, then-head coach Tom Coughlin said that Flowers compared to “A battleship, an aircraft carrier or however you want to describe him.” Unfortunately for the Giants, Flowers turned out to be about as mobile as any of those seaworthy devices, and he’s allowed 19 sacks and 212 total pressures over his four years, adding in 39 penalties. Coughlin signed him with the Jaguars after Flowers was released by the Giants in October, 2018, but Jacksonville had no more use for him. Flowers recently (and inexplicably) signed a one-year, $4 million contract with the Redskins.

Flowers’ tenure didn’t just include poor play, but was also highlighted by the near assault of a current ESPN writer, emotional on-field outbursts and rumors of him quitting down the stretch in 2017.

There was nothing positive to note about Flowers’ time with New York, so it’s no surprise he currently reigns as the Giants’ biggest draft bust of all-time.
