Turkish President Recep Tayyip Erdogan received in Ankara on Friday Pakistani Prime Minister Imran Khan for talks aimed at bolstering cooperation between their two countries.

They stressed the importance of the current cooperation between them at international events and forums.

During a joint press conference with Khan, Erdogan announced that a tripartite summit between Turkey, Pakistan and Afghanistan will be hosted by Istanbul in the upcoming spring.

It will be held after local elections that are set for late March.

Erdogan and Khan also underlined their commitment to cooperate together to confront the movement of exiled Turkish cleric Fethullah Gulen.

Ankara holds his movement responsible for a failed 2016 military coup.

On December 28, Pakistan’s Supreme Court designated as terrorist Gulen’s Pak-Turk International Cag Education Foundation.

Erdogan welcomed the move on Friday.
