Erdington murder: First picture of man, 28, shot in broad daylight

A man shot and killed in the middle of the day in Birmingham has been described as a 'much loved son'.

Remal Hunt was found after being blasted on a quiet street on Thursday, just after noon.

Emergency services attempted to save the man, but he died at the scene.

A post-mortem revealed that he died due to a gunshot wound to the chest with police today releasing a photo of the victim.

Police are yet to make any arrests but believe that Remal was directly targeted by the shooter.

Remal's family released a statement through the police, stating that “Remal was a very much loved son, brother and father who was kind hearted and will be sadly missed".

Detective Inspector Caroline Corfield from the force’s homicide team, said: “This is a desperately sad time for Remal’s family, and we have specially trained officers in place to support them.

“We believe that Remal was directly targeted. There will be many people who know what happened and where those responsible are now. I would encourage them to provide that information which can be done in confidence.

“I would also like to hear from anyone who was in the area of Church Road around midday on Thursday - you may have valuable information. Remal’s family are distraught at his loss and we are determined to seek justice for them."

At the tme Church Road residents claimed Remal's body was not covered by a police tent initially, but had a blanket thrown over to hide his body.

"There were lots of people around but the tent was not put up there for a while," one resident said.

"It was just a blanket - I have never seen a dead body on the floor like that before. Its truly shocking.

Another neighbour Ronnie Douglas, 54, said on Thursday that Remal's "brother ran over in an extremely distressed state".

"He was so frantic, the police had to take him away.

"He was very upset and emotional but he needed someone to calm him down.

"I came up when it was all cornered off. Its really shocking, I have lived here for many years."

Ronnie also slammed police for their lack of preventative measures against crime.

"The thing I have found most disturbing is that the police are not being proactive but reactive to these sort of crimes," he said.
