Eran Zahavi hits out at Scotland fans who booed anthem as Israel's main man backtracks on teammate criticism

Israel star Eran Zahavi lashed out online at the Scotland fans that booed his country's national anthem on Saturday night before admitting he was furious in the dressing room at full-time.

Zahavi slammed his team-mates' ability to defend in his post-match comments after the visitors twice led through the PSV man's free-kick and Munas Dabbur's tap-in.

But John McGinn and Lyndon Dykes replied for Steve Clarke before Scott McTominay touched home the winner in added time to put us in the driving seat for a play-off place to make the 2022 World Cup.

Before the match a section of the sell-out Hampden crowd whistled through the away side's anthem and Zahavi said that fired his side up even more while he appears to have backtracked on his scathing criticism towards the backline.

Captioning an Instagram post of the celebrations after his opening goal, he wrote: "Proud of our team, an evening full of events that started with whistling of contempt at the anthem.

"When I hear the players next to me shouting the anthem, not singing, it makes me proud to be a part of it.

"When I went down to the locker room I was very angry and a lot of emotions and thoughts were running through my head.

"But most importantly I looked at the players in the eyes and saw players who gave one hundred per cent of themselves and sometimes it is not enough.

"We raise our heads and continue to trust the process. Our entire audience will fill Turner (Stadium) on Tuesday."
