Equipment manufacturer Bowa Medical secures approval for new Devon headquarters

Medical equipment manufacturer has secured planning permission to build a new UK headquarters in Devon.

German firm Bowa Medical, which specialises in ultrasonic tech products for surgical procedures, is set to move to a manufacturing plant with research and office facilities at the Oak Tree Business Park in Kingskerswell, near Newton Abbot.

The company, which is currently based near Ashburton, around seven miles west of Kingskerswell, said it was planning to begin the construction of its new premises in the “coming months”. The project is scheduled for completion by September 2024.

Bosses said the move to the three-acre site represented a “new chapter of growth and expansion” for the business, as it looks to boost production capacity to meet demand for its services.

The company added that the new facility would help create jobs in the area, and secure the company’s future for “sustained success”. The firm’s Surgical Skills Lab Centre will also relocate to Oaktree, to continue providing surgical courses for healthcare professionals.

Chris Graham, engineering and operations director at Bowa Medical UK, said: “We are thrilled to have secured planning permission for the new facility which will serve as a state-of-the-art hub for our UK operations and provide a dynamic work environment for our employees.

“We look forward to seeing our vision come to life and are grateful for the support of our stakeholders including Teignbridge Council, Roach Planning, Pinnacle Architectural Design and Project Management Ltd and Burrington Estates as we move forward with this important milestone.”

Bowa employs around 830 staff across 10 countries, with around 80% of its products exported around the world. The group racked up sales of around £70m in 2020.
