Convicted pedophile Jeffrey Epstein may have had a secret child 15 years ago, according to an email allegedly sent by Sarah Ferguson, the ex-wife of Andrew Mountbatten Windsor, that was released in the Epstein files last week.
In the email, dated September 21, 2011, Ferguson wrote: “Don’t know if you’re still on this bbm but have heard from The Duke that you have had a baby boy.”
In a separate email, Ferguson raged at Epstein for disappearing and accused him of only being friends with her “to get to Andrew.”
“I did not even know you were having a baby,” she wrote.
The Independent has asked Ferguson for comment.
If the claim is true, it would mark the first time the public was aware that Epstein had a child.
The Justice Department released three million pages of documents - including 2,000 videos and 18,000 photos - from the Epstein files on January 30, more than a month after the legal deadline. The trove of materials shed more light on the various relationships Epstein had with high-profile men, including Elon Musk, Bill Gates and Commerce Secretary Howard Lutnick. An inclusion in the files does not indicate wrongdoing.

Lawyers for Epstein survivors ask judges for ‘immediate intervention’
17:30 , Ariana BaioTwo lawyers who represent the survivors of Jeffrey Epstein are asking two federal judges for “immediate judicial intervention” after the DOJ published dozens of unredacted documents and photos in its latest Epstein files drop.
The attorneys, Brittany Henderson and Brad Edwards, sent letters to the judges who oversaw the New York federal sex trafficking cases against Ghislaine Maxwell and Jeffrey Epstein. The letters, seen by CNN, are not publicly available yet.
“Within the past 48 hours, the undersigned alone has reported thousands of redaction failures on behalf of nearly 100 individual survivors whose lives have been turned upside down by DOJ’s latest release,” the lawyers wrote.
“There is no conceivable degree of institutional incompetence sufficient to explain the scale, consistency, and persistence of the failures that occurred —particularly where the sole task ordered by the Court and repeatedly emphasized by DOJ was simple: redact known victim names before publication.”
What are the main revelations from the new Epstein files release?
17:00 , Independent ReportersInitial findings from the drop include the shocking revelation that Epstein may have fathered a child around 15 years ago, as well as emails from Andrew Mountbatten-Windsor, the former British prince, inviting Epstein to Buckingham Palace years after the financier was convicted of sex crimes.

DOJ published unredacted nude photographs in latest release
16:30 , Ariana BaioThe Justice Department appeared to upload dozens of unredacted nude photographs depicting young women, or potentially minors, among the trove of three million documents in the Epstein files.
Around 40 images, seen by the New York Times, appeared to show the nude bodies and faces of young women or girls. Some of the images showed the individuals on a beach – potentially on Epstein’s island in the U.S. Virgin Islands. Others showed them in bedrooms.
The explicit photographs appeared to have been uploaded in error. Once notified, the Justice Department removed the images.
A spokesperson for the DOJ said they were “working around the clock to address any victim concerns, additional redactions of personally identifiable information, as well as any files that require further readactiosn under the act, to include images of a sexual nature.”
“Once proper redactions have been made, any responsive documents will repopulate online,” the spokeswoman told NYT.
The DOJ has spent months dedicating swaths of lawyers to redacting the names and identifying information of survivors from the millions of documents, including videos and photos. In letters to federal judges, the DOJ has explained how tedious the process has been.

16:00 , Independent VideoUniversity severs ties with George Mitchell over Epstein links
15:30 , PA MediaQueen’s University Belfast is to remove the name of George Mitchell, a key architect of the Good Friday Agreement, from a peace centre due to his links with disgraced paedophile financier Jeffrey Epstein.
A bust of the former US senator will also be removed from the university grounds. Mr Mitchell chaired the 1998 peace agreement negotiations and served as the university's chancellor from 1999 to 2009.
A Queen’s spokesperson said: “Queen’s University Belfast has taken the decision to remove the name of its former chancellor, Senator George J Mitchell, from the Institute for Global Peace, Security and Justice, and to remove the bust commemorating him from the University campus.
“This decision follows the emergence of new information contained in the Epstein files released on Friday, which include references to Senator Mitchell.
“While no findings of wrongdoing by senator Mitchell have been made, the university has concluded that, in light of this material, and mindful of the experiences of victims and survivors, it is no longer appropriate for its institutional spaces and entities to continue to bear his name.”
Trump is mentioned thousands of times but claims are unverified
15:00 , Ariana BaioAs expected, President Donald Trump’s name is mentioned thousands of times among the three million pages released as part of the Epstein files – but it’s unclear what tips or information may be true in the documents about the president.
Before the 2020 election, people submitted information about Trump’s ties to Epstein to the FBI. The Justice Department has warned that some of that may be fake images, videos, documents or claims submitted by individuals hoping to make the president look bad.
Most of the documents about Trump were new articles or emails that referenced the president.

14:27 , Owen ScottFrom members of the royal family to tech titans and Wall Street power brokers, a who’s who of powerful men make appearances in the latest documents released by the US Justice Department in relation to Jeffrey Epstein.
Many of those men have denied having close ties to the disgraced financier, who was convicted in 2008 of procuring a child for prostitution and soliciting a prostitute. Epstein was also facing sex trafficking charges when he died in his jail cell in 2019.

At least 43 Epstein victims named in DOJ's release of files related to the pedophile
14:01 , Owen Scott
The names of dozens of Jeffrey Epstein’s victims were exposed in the DOJ’s recent release of files related to the convicted pedophile, a new report has claimed.
A review, conducted by The Wall Street Journal, found that 43 victims had their full names included in Friday’s release.
Several of the victims had their names appear more than 100 times in the documents.
Todd Blanche, the deputy attorney general, has defended the release by saying that errors affect just “0.001 percent of all the materials.”
“Every time we hear from a victim or their lawyer that they believe that their name was not properly redacted, we immediately rectify that,” he told ABC News.
The WSJ’s review found that some names were left exposed even in photographs where other names were redacted.
In one image, an explicitly labelled list of victims featured ten redacted names with one name remaining visible.
In another, a male modelling scout’s email is redacted while the victim’s name remains visible.
Brad Edwards, an attorney for some of Epstein’s victims, told the WSJ that he demanded, on Friday, that the DOJ redacts the remaining names.
“We notified them of the problem within an hour of the release,” Edwards said. “It’s been acknowledged as a grave error; there is no excuse for failing to immediately remedy it unless it was done intentionally.”

British PM has called for the resignation of Lord Peter Mandelson, whose husband allegedly accepted money from Epstein
13:17 , Owen Scott
British Prime Minister Keir Starmer has said Lord Peter Mandelson “should not be a member of the House of Lords,” according to the BBC.
Mandelson and Starmer are both members of the governing Labour Party, with the former previously serving as ambassador to the U.S.
Mandelson was eventually sacked after a previous release of documents related to Jeffrey Epstein found that he had referred to the disgraced financier as his “best pal.”
He was also found to have encouraged Epstein to “fight for early release,” although he has since apologized.
But, the scandal was reopened when Mandelson’s husband, Reinaldo Avila da Silva, was alleged to have received thousands of pounds from Epstein after the financier was jailed.
The newly released emails suggest that the funds were used to pay for an osteopathy course.
Currently, Mandelson is a member of the House of Lords, which is the U.K’s upper house. Members are normally nominated by a prime minister, with Mandelson being nominated in 2008 by then-Prime Minister Gordon Brown.

Only half of the Epstein files have been released, Democratic lawmaker says
12:31 , Owen ScottDemocratic Representative Ro Khanna says that the DOJ has only released half of the Epstein files.
Khanna, who led efforts to force the release of the files, alongside Republican congressman Thomas Massie, is now calling on the DOJ to release the remaining documents.
“They've released at best half the documents,” he raged on NBC’s Meet the Press. “But even those shock the conscience of this country. I mean, you have some of the most wealthy individuals, tech leaders, finance leaders, politicians, all implicated in some way, having emailed them, wanting to go to Epstein's island [even] knowing that Epstein was a pedophile.”

Photograph of Mandelson in his underwear was taken in Epstein's Paris apartment, according to reports
12:05 , Owen Scott

An image, released by the DOJ and appearing to depict British political giant Lord Peter Mandelson in his underwear, was taken in Jeffrey Epstein’s Parisian apartment according to reports.
The alleged location of the property shown in the image was pinpointed by Sky News.
The broadcaster conducted an analysis of the room, with the balcony railing matching the distinctive design used in Epstein’s apartment.
The room also appears to have been featured in a separate video, which shows two women dancing. That video does not appear to be related to the photograph of Mandelson.
Previously, a spokesperson for Lord Mandelson told Sky News that the location of the photograph could not be verified.
"No one can say who or where the photo was taken,” the spokesperson said. "Lord Mandelson has absolutely no idea or indeed whether it has any connection to Epstein at all."
Lord Mandelson has not been accused of any criminal wrongdoing.

Andrew Mountbatten-Windsor has been spotted rising a horse near to his former residence, the Royal Lodge.
The infamous property is on the estate surrounding Windsor Castle.
Mountbatten-Windsor’s relationship with Epstein has often been called into question, although he denied any allegations of sexual assault made by the late Virginia Giuffre.
While alive, Giuffre alleged that she was trafficked to the United Kingdom to have sex with Mountbatten-Windsor.
Sarah Ferguson, Mountbatten-Windsor’s ex-wife, has been named in several newly released emails but is not accused of any criminal wrongdoing.

Sarah Ferguson congratulated Epstein on 'baby boy', reports say
11:09 , Owen Scott
Sarah Ferguson congratulated convicted pedophile Jeffrey Epstein on the alleged birth of a baby son in 2011.
“Don’t know if you’re still on this bbm but have heard from The Duke that you have had a baby boy,” she wrote in DOJ files seen by The Telegraph.
The former duchess signed off the email with, “Sarah xx.”
Whilst alive, Epstein never stated that he had a child. If the Duchess’s claim is true, Epstein’s son would be around 14-15 years old.
In another email released by the DOJ and seen by The Sun, Fergie allegedly mentioned the boy again.
“You have disappeared. I did not even know you were having a baby,” she wrote. “It was sooooo crystal clear to me that you were only friends with me to get to Andrew.
“And that really hurt me deeply. More than you will know.”
The Independent has contacted Sarah Ferguson for comment.

Richard Branson distances himself from Epstein revelations
10:51 , Owen ScottSir Richard Branson, the billionaire founder of the Virgin Group, has distanced himself from Jeffrey Epstein after emails between the two men were published by the Department of Justice.
The email exchange, which took place on September 11, 2013, was among the more than three million Epstein files published Friday — as required by federal law.
In the correspondence, Branson reminisced warmly about meeting Epstein, dispensed public relations advice and requested that the deceased sex offender bring his "harem" to their next get-together.
“Any contact Richard and Joan Branson had with Epstein took place on only a few occasions more than twelve years ago, and was limited to group or business settings, such as a charity tennis event,” a spokesperson told The Independent.

Bill Gates appears next to unidentified woman in new Epstein release
10:42 , Owen Scott
A newly released photograph from the Epstein files appears to show tech entrepreneur Bill Gates standing beside an unidentified woman.
The woman’s face was redacted by the DOJ, making her impossible to identify.
Other releases on Friday suggested that Gates had “trysts” with married women and “Russian girls” although a spokesperson for the billionaire philanthropist denied this.
“These claims are absolutely absurd and completely false,” a spokesperson told Business Insider. “The only thing these documents demonstrate is Epstein’s frustration that he did not have an ongoing relationship with Gates and the lengths he would go to entrap and defame.”
Gates has also not been accused of any criminal wrongdoing.
Sarah Ferguson told Epstein that she needed £20,000 a year after his child sex conviction
10:14 , Owen Scott
Sarah Ferguson told Jeffrey Epstein that she needed £20,000 a year after he was convicted on child sex charges.
"I urgently need 20,000 pounds ($27,521) for rent today,” Ferguson wrote, according to newly released emails by the DOJ. "The landlord has threatened to go to the newspapers if I don't pay.
“Any brainwaves?"
The lengthy email chain was initially between Epstein and a man named David Stern, who is a U.S. based lawyer and the former commissioner of the National Basketball Association.
At the start of the email exchange, Stern sent a link to an ABC Article entitled Duchess of Debt? Closure of Sarah Ferguson's Business.
That prompted Epstein to copy in “ferg” to the email chain.
“You have a rat,” he wrote.
Then, the disgraced financier told Ferguson that "disgruntled investors... or others that are owed money" could be behind the leak and warned her to be careful about how “spin” would be applied to the story.
After that, Ferguson names an investor whom she believed may have broken a confidentiality agreement.

Princess Eugenie, daughter of Sarah Ferguson and Andrew Mountbatten-Windsor (formerly Prince Andrew), was mentioned in the Epstein files by an unknown address.
On March 21, 2010, which is two days before Eugenie’s birthday, an account simply sent the phrase, “ny?”
In response, from a redacted address, someone wrote, "Not sure yet. Just waiting for Eugenie to come back from a shagging weekend!!"
It is unknown who the author of the email is and where Eugenie was at the time.
However, the princess has not be accused of any wrongdoing.
Trump goes on fresh late-night social media blitz

Donald Trump has gone on yet another late-night social media blitz, raging about everything from the economy to Trevor Noah’s Epstein joke at the Grammys.
He accused the Democrats of trying to protect the “Criminal, violent and vicious,” although he did not elaborate on who these people are.
The president also quoted a headline, which read: “’Amazing' what Trump has done in 12 months.”
Trump also warned Trevor Noah to “get his facts straight” after the comedian alleged that the president wanted to acquire Greenland because he can no longer “hang out” on Jeffrey Epstein’s island.
“I have never been to Epstein Island, nor anywhere close, and until tonight’s false and defamatory statement, have never been accused of being there, not even by the Fake News Media,” Trump seethed. . “Noah, a total loser, better get his facts straight, and get them straight fast.

Donald Trump threatens to sue Trevor Noah for Epstein joke at the Grammys
08:15 , Owen Scott
Donald Trump took to Truth Social to air his frustration with a joke made at the Grammys by host Trevor Noah.
Noah had claimed that Trump wanted to take over Greenland, as he has been threatening to do in recent weeks, because he needed a new place to “hang out with Bill Clinton.”
Now, Trump has threatened to “have some fun” with Noah, whom he considers a “poor, pathetic, talentless dope.”
“The Grammy Awards are the WORST, virtually unwatchable! CBS is lucky not to have this garbage litter their airwaves any longer,” Trump seethed. “The host, Trevor Noah, whoever he may be, is almost as bad as Jimmy Kimmel at the Low Ratings Academy Awards.
“Noah said, INCORRECTLY about me, that Donald Trump and Bill Clinton spent time on Epstein Island. WRONG!!! I can’t speak for Bill, but I have never been to Epstein Island, nor anywhere close, and until tonight’s false and defamatory statement, have never been accused of being there, not even by the Fake News Media,” he continued. “Noah, a total loser, better get his facts straight, and get them straight fast.
“It looks like I’ll be sending my lawyers to sue this poor, pathetic, talentless, dope of an M.C., and suing him for plenty$. Ask Little George Slopadopolus, and others, how that all worked out. Also ask CBS! Get ready Noah, I’m going to have some fun with you! President DJT.”
Noah’s joke was brief, but biting.
“Song of the Year — that is a Grammy that every artist wants almost as much as Trump wants Greenland, which makes sense because Epstein’s island is gone, he needs a new one to hang out with Bill Clinton,” he said, to laughs from the audience.
The timeline of Lord Mandelson’s controversial relationship with Jeffrey Epstein
08:00 , Alisha Rahaman SarkarOne member of the bipartisan pair leading the effort to compel the Justice Department to release files from the Jeffrey Epstein investigation said on Sunday that only about half of the Department’s trove has been made public and warned that there would be consequences if the rest of the documents do not come out soon.
Rep. Ro Khanna appeared on NBC’s Meet the Press two days after the DOJ published a large trove of documents from the case totalling about 3.5 million pages of evidence related to the years-long investigation into Epstein, the billionaire and well-connected financier who died in prison in 2019 while awaiting trial on child sex trafficking charges.
The Democrat, who led efforts to force the DOJ to release the Epstein files along with Republican congressman Thomas Massie, told moderator Kristen Welker that the DOJ’s release on Friday, while substantial, was weeks late under the statute passed by Congress and amounted to just about half of what Congress had demanded from the agency.

India responds to Modi's mentions on Epstein files
05:40 , Alisha Rahaman SarkarIndia's foreign ministry issued a strongly-worded statement to deny any impropriety after Narendra Modi's name appeared in the contents of the newly released Epstein files in connection to the Indian prime minister's visit to Israel in 2017.
In more than a dozen emails and phone messages released by the US Department of Justice, the sex offender repeatedly portrayed himself as a go-between keen to deepen US–India engagement.
“We have seen reports of an email message from the so-called Epstein files that has a reference to the Prime Minister and his visit to Israel,” said India's foreign ministry spokesperson.
“Beyond the fact of the Prime Minister’s official visit to Israel in July 2017, the rest of the allusions in the email are little more than trashy ruminations by a convicted criminal, which deserve to be dismissed with the utmost contempt."

In a post on X, Musk wrote: "I knew that I would be smeared relentlessly, despite never having attended his parties or been on his 'Lolita Express' plane or set foot on his creepy island or done anything wrong at all."Nonetheless, the extreme pain of being accused of being the opposite of who I am was worth it."

Pressure mounts on Andrew and Mandelson to reveal Epstein details
04:20 , Alisha Rahaman SarkarAndrew Mountbatten-Windsor and Lord Peter Mandelson are facing calls to reveal all they know about Jeffrey Epstein to US lawmakers, as the peer resigned his membership of the Labour Party to avoid causing it "further embarrassment".
Andrew and Lord Mandelson are both allegedly featured in the more than three million documents released by the US Department of Justice on Friday related to paedophile financier Epstein.
In an alleged email exchange from 2009, Lord Mandelson appeared to tell Epstein he would lobby ministers about a tax on bankers bonuses.
Among them were files that suggested Epstein had made $75,000 in payments to Lord Mandelson between 2003 and 2004, when he was a Labour MP.
A man who appears to be Andrew, the King's disgraced brother, meanwhile features in images from the release where he is crouched over an unidentified woman who is lying on the floor.

Slovakia national security adviser resigns over Epstein files
04:00 , Alisha Rahaman SarkarSlovakian prime minister Robert Fico's national security adviser has resigned after new files related to Jeffrey Epstein allegedly showed the pair had exchanged emails talking about young women.
National security adviser Miroslav Lajcak issued a statement denying any wrongdoing and condemning Epstein's crimes. He described the exchange as informal and light-hearted and without any real substance, but said he would offer his resignation so the situation would not be used to attack the prime minister."
Not because of having done anything criminal or unethical in my actions, but I don't want him (Fico) to bear the political costs for something that's unrelated to his decisions," he said.
Fico announced in a video message on Facebook on Saturday he had accepted Lajcak's resignation, calling the adviser an incredible source of experience in diplomacy and foreign policy.

00:30 , Andrea CavallierOn Sunday, House Speaker Mike Johnson told NBC’s “Meet the Press” that he thinks the DOJ is complying with the law requiring public disclosure of the Epstein files.
But Rep. Ro Khanna, who is leading the effort to release all the Epstein files, said he did not believe the department had fully complied.
He said survivors are upset that many of their names accidentally had come out without redactions and they want to make sure the rest of the files come out.
Blanche said each time the department has learned that a victim’s name was not properly redacted, it has moved quickly to fix the problem but that those mistakes account for a tiny fraction of the overall materials.
Top DOJ official said info in Epstein docs in 'troubling' but 'does not allow us necessarily to prosecute somebody'
00:00 , Andrea CavallierThe possibility of additional criminal charges in the wake of the Epstein files release is slim, according to Deputy Attorney General Todd Blanche.
He said the existence of “horrible photographs” and troubling email correspondence included in the documents does not “allow us necessarily to prosecute somebody.”
That remains unchanged from what officials said last summer regarding a review of Epstein-related records, saying that it did not establish a basis for new criminal investigations, the Associated Press reported.
“There’s a lot of correspondence. There’s a lot of emails. There’s a lot of photographs. There’s a lot of horrible photographs that appear to be taken by Mr. Epstein or people around him,” Blanche said Sunday on CNN’s “State of the Union.” “But that doesn’t allow us necessarily to prosecute somebody.”
He said that victims of Epstein’s sex abuse “want to be made whole,” but that “doesn’t mean we can just create evidence or that we can just kind of come up with a case that isn’t there.”
“We had reviewed the files, the ‘Epstein Files,’ and there was nothing in there that allowed us to prosecute anybody,” Blanche said. “We then released over 3.5 million pieces of paper, which the entire world can look at now and see if we got it wrong.”
