Epidemiologist says Bill Belichick is ‘definitely high-risk’ as NFL plans around coronavirus

New England Patriots coach Bill Belichick would be among the many in the NFL at high risk if he contracted coronavirus, according to a medical expert.

Belichick is 68 years old, which gives him with that high-risk label. There have been several ideas that have been floated around in regards to how to get this season underway. One of the ideas is the possibility of a shortened season. As noted in a report by the Boston Globe, several medical professionals have talked about the possibility of a shortened season.

As for Belichick, he may need to take more precautions than his players when it comes to protecting himself from the virus.

“Belichick is definitely high-risk,” Dr. Richard Ellison, an infectious disease specialist at the UMass Memorial Medical Center, told the Globe. “The risk of someone being hospitalized or dying is about 10 folds higher for someone over the age of 60 versus someone who is in their 20s or 30s.”

New England faces Miami in the season opener on September 13. This game is a highly anticipated contest as both teams look to begin new eras after revamped offseason.
