Thunderstorms and heavy rain to hit Leeds on Friday in 23C heat

It's set to be a varied day in Leeds, with periods of sunshine and thunderstorms both on the cards.

The Met Office is predicting a sunny start to Friday, with varying periods of cloud and sun expected from 5am until midday, when there will be the first instance of rain.

Then at 12pm a bout of thunder is expected for the city before coming to an end an hour later.

After that there are two hours of light showers in Leeds before at 4pm there's another period of heavy rainfall expected.

There will then be another light shower from 5pm before it dries off as we head into the evening.

Temperatures will remain high throughout the day, starting at 18°C before peaking at 23°C later in the afternoon.

In its summary for Yorkshire's Friday weather, the Met Office writes: "Sunny spells at first, however cloud soon thickening. Scattered heavy showers developing with a risk of hail and thunder. Very warm still, but less hot than on Thursday."
