Epic Games has acquired rhythm game developer Harmonix.
On Tuesday, the announcement came that the Dance Central and Rock Band studio is Joining Epic Games to help build the company’s metaverse, which is a fancy way of saying that Harmonix will be working on Fortnite.
“Our team will work with Epic to create musical journeys and gameplay for Fortnite,” Harmonix said in a statement. “While we’re not ready to share any specifics, the whole team is incredibly excited to get started. Stay tuned!”
Harmonix also reassured fans that none of this will affect DLC plans or seasonal updates for Rock Band, as many new tracks are coming to the game next year.

Additionally, Harmonix’s games will remain on Steam, the Epic Games Store’s primary competitor. Unfortunately, the company has no current plans to make any more Rock Band instruments. Better pray that the old plastic drum set in your crawl space holds up for years to come, eh?
As Fortnite continues to grow, it’s not hard to see why Epic Games brought on more hands to assist development. There was a Naruto crossover last week, a League of Legends event the week before that and Boba Fett is coming in December.
