Eoin Morgan hints at extending England captaincy to 2022 T20 World Cup in Australia

Eoin Morgan has insisted he wants another chance to captain England to T20 World Cup glory, following their exit from this year's competition at the hands of New Zealand.

England were eliminated in the semi-finals after losing a dramatic game to the Kiwis by five wickets.

Morgan also led England to the final in 2016, with his side coming up short to the West Indies thanks to Carlos Brathwaite's final over heroics.

However, Morgan is keen to remain captain for next year's T20 World Cup which will take place in Australia from October 16 to November 13.

When asked if he plans to still be in charge then, Morgan replied: "I hope so. I think I'm still offering enough within the side.

"I absolutely love playing cricket at the moment for the changing room, the guys give absolutely everything.

"Those that are going to get better, they are at the forefront of change both on and off the field with a lot of things to be proud about, not just on the field.

"So I am incredibly proud to be their leader."

Morgan also said the defeat had left England "devastated", but remained full of praise for his players.

"We’re devastated," he added. "To be on the wrong side of a close game is not easy to take.

"I thought we fought unbelievably well today on a wicket that didn’t necessarily suit our batting but we managed to post a par score, and we were brilliant with the ball.

"We were right in the game, probably until Jimmy Neesham came to the wicket – if not ahead of the game.

"Throughout both innings, everybody struggled to clear the ropes on both sides and I think that was just the nature of the pitch. You have to take your hat off to him, he played really well.

"I think the 11 guys that took the field today gave absolutely everything. I'm extremely proud of the performance that they put in."
