Enzo Maresca insists he is happy at Chelsea despite his comments at the weekend when he said he had endured “the worst 48 hours” of his time at Stamford Bridge.

After Saturday’s 2-0 win against Everton, Maresca cryptically claimed there had been a lack of support for him and his players following a run of four games without win.

It was unclear who Maresca was talking about but he appeared to suggest it was not Chelsea fans.

Responding to a question about Malo Gusto, Maresca said: “The last 48 hours have been the worst 48 hours since I joined the club because many people didn’t support us.”

Asked who was not supporting him and the players, Maresca said: “In general. In general. I love the fans and we are very happy with the fans.”

Chelsea insiders played down his words as simply an emotional reaction to an emotional win.

Before the Everton game, Maresca and his players had received some criticism for recent performances and results.

On Monday, Maresca refused to clarify his comments as he faced the media at Cobham in his pre-match press conference ahead of Tuesday’s Carabao Cup quarter-final away to Cardiff City.

"I already spoke about that, I don’t have anything to add,” he said.

When pushed further, Maresca said: "It’s Cardiff tomorrow please.

“I already spoke about that. I think it was quite clear. No more than that.

“I respect your opinion and people’s opinions, but again I don’t have anything to add. My focus is just on tomorrow’s game.

"We are in an era when everyone can say what they think. I respect people’s opinions, but again I don’t have anything to add. We are in a moment when everyone can say what they think.

"What I said after the Everton game, I don’t have anything to add. I said after the game that I love Chelsea supporters. They deserve the best. I don’t have anything to add."

Asked whether he is committed to the Chelsea job, Maresca said: "Absolutely, yes."
