Enzo Fernandez’s father reveals Chelsea star wants to play different role under Mauricio Pochettino

Enzo Fernandez wants to talk to Mauricio Pochettino about playing further forward in the Chelsea midfield next season.

The 22-year-old arrived at the club in January for a fee in the region of £115million and impressed in his first few months at Stamford Bridge, despite the Blues’ collective struggles.

Pochettino will be hoping to get the out of Fernandez next season, with his fellow Argentine expected to play a pivotal role in the midfield regardless of what summer transfer business Chelsea do.

Moises Caicedo continues to be strongly linked with a move to Stamford Bridge, the Blues seemingly favourites to land the Brighton star as Arsenal focus their efforts on completing a deal for Declan Rice.

Fernandez played a deep role in midfield under Graham Potter and Frank Lampard, and the World Cup winning is still waiting for his first goal in a Chelsea shirt despite being a regular starter in the second-half of the season.

That could change under Pochettino though, with Fernandez’s father revealing that his son planned to speak to the new Chelsea boss about a slightly different role, as he looks to help the club get back to challenging for the Premier League title.

“Enzo is comfortable, happy, and adjusting to London,” Raul Fernandez told The Chelsea Spot.

“He was happy about the arrival of Pochettino. Next season? My son wants to be a champion.

“I think [we will see Enzo play further forward]. He was going to ask [Pochettino] to play further advanced.”
