Enzo Fernandez emerges as Chelsea transfer priority as January window ticks down

Transfer target number three: secured. Transfer target number two: secured. Now Chelsea have only to land Argentina World Cup winner Enzo Fernandez and it will be the perfect transfer window, at least according to the fans.

With just a week or so of the January transfer window remaining, Chelsea have already brought in Mykhailo Mudryk, Benoit Badiashile, David Datro Fofana, Andrey Santos, Joao Felix and Noni Madueke.

Two of the six, Mudryk and Felix, featured in Rank Your Targets, in which we asked Football.London readers to place six potential January signings in order of priority.

And Blues fans agreed with the Chelsea hierarchy, putting Joao Felix at number three and Mudryk at two. And a superb January for the Stamford Bridge outfit will be completed with the addition of their number one target, 21-year-old Benfica midfielder Fernandez.

A £106million release clause was thought to be the main stumbling block but the deal is not dead according to sources in Portugal, with Fernandez having had his head turned by the Blues approach.

And despite Moises Caceido reportedly being the subject of a bid from Chelsea and Rafael Leao and Youssoufa Moukoko also being monitored, Blues fans believe Todd Boehly should concentrate all his efforts on securing Fernandez.

A structured deal could be the way forward, with the Blues paying three equal instalments in addition to £8.8million in potential add-ons. That is certainly the way the fans would go if it guarantees they land their main man.

  1. Enzo Fernandez
  2. Mykhailo Mudryk
