Enzo Fernandez can help Chelsea complete dream summer signing to fix Graham Potter problem

Chelsea can solve their attacking woes with a stunning transfer swoop to reunite two former teammates and also World Cup winners. With just six goals since November and four in 2023, Graham Potter has struggled since taking over from Thomas Tuchel, with scoring just one of his many problems.

Club top scorer Kai Havertz has scored just once in 2023 whilst Raheem Sterling also has one. A lack of impetus from anywhere else despite exciting flashes from Joao Felix and other new attacking signings has seen performances become turgid and stale.

That has been the way for a while too with Chelsea's 2022 output gradually worsening and causing issues towards the back end of last season. Ahead of a week that may well define his Stamford Bridge career Potter is still searching for answers.

There is no obvious winner here either. Potter has tried to create a cohesive unit but that has fallen flat due to struggles with gelling a collection of new players together quickly. Individual quality is high but finishing is not a quality immediately associated with any of their forwards.

Chances have been created at a higher frequency of late but Fraser Forster still found himself largely untested in the 2-0 defeat on Sunday against Tottenham. It is a sorry state of affairs and one that will have to improve with time as very little signs of getting better are shown currently.

This takes us forward to the summer whereby a new signing could play a key role in transforming the frontline. According to Spanish outlet SPORT, Manchester City striker Julian Alvarez is growing concerned at his gametime and development. Playing second fiddle to Erling Haaland, Alvarez has still scored 10 goals in all competitions and five in the league despite his bit-part role.

This isn't enough for the newly crowned champion of the world though despite City making a fresh contract proposal to him for an extra year, says Fabrizio Romano. He was only signed by City just over one year ago but found himself loaned back to River Plate to finish the season in Argentina.

Since then he has impressed massively with his performances for club and country. Should the reports be true that he would consider a move away from the Etihad Stadium then Chelsea would be silly not to pounce. After all, they only recently signed Alvarez's fellow countryman Enzo Fernandez.

They are of a similar age and both recently moved to England. If the City man truly is open to a move away then Chelsea may have the perfect way to solve his own personal troubles as well as their goalscoring ones.

The pair not only starred in Qatar for Lionel Scaloni's side but also played 44 times together at River Plate. In those games they combined six times to score between them and only lost eight games, winning 26. With a clear connection between them and recent success, it could be the perfect move for both parties.
