Environmental Justice Network Ireland urge decision makers to recognise rights

The Environmental Justice Network Ireland is calling on councils and decision makers to recognise the rights of nature.

EJNI is a network of activists, NGOs, lawyers, and academics who aim to develop the rights of nature conversation on the island of Ireland.

In a new video launched on Friday they lay out their case for people and and governing bodies to turn away from a human centred approach to how we treat the planet.

This new way of thinking has already been adopted in countries including Ecuador and New Zealand.

EJNI say it means a shift in our relationship with nature “from one of dominance to one of sharing, caring, respect and interdependency”.

The network believes it could be the start of a conversation that could act as a catalyst to shift our way of thinking “from an extractive economy towards a regenerative economy”.

With the climate crisis already playing out in terms of freak weather across the globe and right here at they say now is the time our laws, policies and environmental systems were changed to protect the nature that sustains us all.
