A major environmental organisation has focused on the health of Australians in its latest budget submission to the federal government.
The Australian Conservation Foundation is calling on the Morrison government to invest $400 million towards powering Australian hospitals with clean energy.
It's also urging $1.4 billion over four years to restore nature in urban areas.
"Underpinning Australians' health is our natural world," the submissions says.
"When our air, rivers, reefs, forests and land are clean and healthy, our climate is stable and our wildlife flourishes, our physical, mental and social wellbeing thrives.
"Yet our wellbeing is being threatened by environmental degradation and a continued reliance on and expansion of toxic fossil fuels."
Th group wants more investment in health and no more public money towards fossil fuels.
The submission points to last summer's deadly bushfires, health impacts from the associated smoke, as well as the broad effects from the coronavirus pandemic.
"These catastrophic events have demonstrated that a prosperous, resilient economy is predicated upon a healthy nation free from disease," ACF says.
